A Pacific Northwest based artist, printmaker, bookmaker,
illustrator, songwriter, and full time dreamer.
Filled with a curiosity for the unknown, his work is
dealing with the sense of perceptions in our times
propelled by constant change.
The various processes (drawing, painting, lithographic
printmaking, and composing) constitute stages for examining
his surroundings and its contexts. From these experiences
surface the nuances of figures, emerged from the shadows
of dreams, the shifting natural world, and the
form of life as it is slowed down through the sifting of
process and time.
Like his sinuous technique, "Mysterious atmosphere is formed naturally."
Having grown up in the deep hills of the rural Ozarks in Arkansas,
Luuk took it upon himself early on to the see the world unknown to him.
After extended travels across Germany and surrounding Europe,
he established himself amongst a close network of friends at the
Department of Safety in Anacortes, WA.
After its disintegration, Luuk and his friends have remained
based in Anacortes as part of a small, young arts community,
partly responsible for the development and operation of the
Anacortes Unknown Recording Studio.
Luuk and his partner, Hannah Stephens, met in Anacortes
and studied together at the Evergreen State College in Olympia,
where they formed their musical project, SiLM.
Together, they have recorded an EP tape release, produced
under the independent Fontee Fount label helmed by
Nicholas Wilbur and Paul Benson, performed numerous shows
and events including Iceland Airwaves 2012, independently
published a Lithographic Book, DREAM\WANDRER, and
have taken part in a residency at Listhus of Olafsfjordor, Iceland.
Luuk and Hannah's collaborative efforts will continue to develop
through the future, from their home in Anacortes, and will surely
expand further beyond greater horizon's into even deeper reaches
of the unknown as they grow individually as artists, musicians,
and visionaries.
